Set Static IP on Ubuntu Server for Personal LAN. Demonstrates how to set a static IP address and Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) on an Ubuntu 12 LAMP server for a personal Local Area Network (LAN). The network is sketched out and network settings are made for an Ubuntu 12 server and an Ubuntu 12 desktop. Instead of using a Domain Name System (DNS) server, the hosts file is configured on the desktop to enable the desktop to find the Ubuntu server by server name or FQDN. The video demonstrates the network using VirtualBox but skipping the short VirtualBox section will allow you to create your own personal network using hardware machines.
